The Grace of Failure
You may have heard about skier Mikaela Shriffin’s blowout in her best events, even if you haven’t been watching the Olympics. Since then, she has been accosted by media, asking her what went wrong and how she feels. The other night she got my attention when she admitted to being a failure in an interview, but then she went on to say something more surprising.
Real(IZE) Love
Valentine’s Day may be the single most dreaded holiday on earth. For those who are still looking for love we thought we’d share what we believe are the keys to ‘true’ love.
Getting (a little) Bigger
I’m fairly tall and for most of my early years in school, I was the tallest kid in the class. This led to a lifetime of trying to be smaller. I spent years just wishing I didn’t stick out or that no one would notice me. What made it worse was that I diminished my accomplishments and dissed myself publically.
Once I noticed this behavior and how damaging it was I tried to stop, but it hasn’t been easy. I started slowly just by standing up straight, learning to accept compliments and acknowledging my accomplishments.

I Wish Someone Had Told Me
Like me, many families and loved ones of chronically ill or terminal patients are completely blind-sided by the difficulties and the joys of caregiving. The most important thing I wish I had known is that caregiving is a marathon, not a sprint. Like most caregivers, I sprang into action, willing to do anything and everything to help my mom recover. I’m embarrassed to admit how much I believed that my mom’s well-being depended on me being some kind of crazy Energizer Bunny Super Hero.
The Word You Never Want To Hear
Most people who has ever been diagnosed with cancer will tell you that they didn’t hear a single thing the doctor said after the word ‘Cancer.’ Among the many things you might feel the first one is probably shock. Even if you know something is wrong, even if you suspected it might be serious, you still might not have expected to hear the word cancer.

Psychedelic Trauma Therapy
One of the more recent developments in trauma therapy is taking center stage is the use of psychedelics or certain plant medicines like cannabis. The FDA has been allowing clinical trials and while it isn’t a new approach, it is having a burst of growth due to the growing legitimization of these medicines for mental health issues.
Infinity & You
Have you seen the infinity symbol before, how if you trace it, it flows in and out of its beautiful loop? It is a profound symbol and I discovered a unique application of it for myself recently.
I wondered how do I learn to live with an open heart, even vulnerable on a regular basis without feeling totally lost when I feel hurt or disappointed?
Trauma Memories
I have a host of memories that I’ll call trauma memories. I was molested as a little girl of about 4 and it was so horrifying, that I suppressed it for a very long time. I had so many symptoms of this abuse, but having not been taught about it I just moved through life not understanding it for a long time.
Can You Feel The Love?
How do we learn to open the heart to more love?
When we think of love in relationships we so often skip over that super obvious one with ourself. Unfortunately so few of us have experienced what love in its pure unconditional form. As children, we have all either had others around us intentionally or unintentionally impact us in a way that left us wounded or feeling that love was conditional. This inevitably closes the heart where we give and receive love. One of the beautiful opportunities we have is to go within to feel our natural sense of love.
The Itch I Can't Scratch
This perfectly describes the last several months. The feeling that things just aren’t right, that it has just been a very bumpy ride. For me this has caused a tremendous amount of anxiety and a desire to eat desserts, smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol (all things I don’t do that much.) It’s like I have a constant itch that can’t be scratched.
The Science Of Sleep
If you’re interested in the science behind sleep and its importance to you health Sleep On It might just be what the doctor ordered.
Cats And The Second Sleep
My cat can sleep in a box that’s too small. She can sleep through all of Lord of the Rings, even the big battle scenes. She can sleep through multiple Zoom calls. Lately, as I’ve been struggling with insomnia I’ve realized that I resent her. Snoozing away, day or night.
Do You Need Someone to Read You a Bedtime Story?
I have had trouble sleeping this past year as a result of the witch’s brew of hormonal changes, public unrest and the global pandemic. The one thing I know will help me fall asleep is to have someone read to me. My husband reads to me from time to time, but he finds having a sleeping, snoring audience to be somewhat unsatisfying. When I mentioned this to a friend she said, “You have to listen to Nothing Much Happens!”
Celebrating Connection
Celebration naturally and unintentionally excludes others. If you have a party, there’s always someone who wasn’t invited, that just how it is.
